This Guy’s Job Is To Groom Adorable Baby Otters All Day

The Monterey Bay Aquarium staff grooms a baby sea otter (known as Otter 696) for two to three hours every day.

Sea otters are the fluffiest. They have one million hairs per square inch, more than any other animal. This thick fur helps the otters stay warm.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium explains that momma otters groom their babies throughout the day to help keep the pups insulated from cold ocean water.

While caring for the orphaned otter, aquarium staff wear a mask so that he won’t get used to humans. When Otter 696 is strong enough he will be released back into the wild.
