The Harp Sponge: An Extraordinary New Species Of Carnivorous Sponge

Space is often referred to as the final frontier but the fact is, there is much yet to be discovered under the ocean right here on the earth!

That became apparent when a rather unusual sponge was discovered 2000 feet off the coast of California. It looks similar to an upside down heart but it is carnivorous!

This sponge, which was found in the deep sea over 2 miles under the surface of the ocean is actually an animal.

It has vertical branches that are the limbs of the animal and they stick up from the surface to catch anything that happens to meander by.
