MP Was Caught Struggling To Stay Awake During a Debate On The EU Withdrawal Bill

The Conservative MP for New Forest West tried to wake himself up by giving his head a shake, but tiredness overcame him and he could be seen slowly slipping down the green bench.

The former minister was caught on the Parliamentary cameras unable to keep his eyes open, and became almost horizontal in his seat.

Former Chancellor Mr Clarke, who was speaking in front of him, carried on talking about the Charter for Fundamental Rights, completely oblivious to what was happening behind him.

When Sir Desmond finally jerked awake after his forty winks he he smiled to himself, hiding a sheepish grin behind his hands.
