A Mesmerizing Time Lapse of Workers Lowering the First Truss From the Old San Francisco Bay Bridge

In 1935, raising the five 504 Trusses on the Bay Bridge involved driving hundreds of piles into the Bay. Today, lowering those massive steel trusses on the old span is more environmentally friendly, without piles, but also more complex.

Video journalist Mark Jones reported on the dismantling, explaining the process step-by-step. In doing so, he created a truly mesmerizing time lapse of the first truss of the old bridge being lowered down, inch by inch onto waiting barges.
