European Politician Mixed Up Merkel With His Wife

The problem many people know: In an important session forgotten to turn off the mobile phone and suddenly comes a private call. In the case of EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, however, a press conference in Brussels showed that Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) was the caller.

“Excuse me, this is my wife,” said the President of the Commission during the press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, trying to get the ringing mobile phone out of his suit jacket in front of the waiting journalists and EU officials. Subsequently, with a glance at the mobile phone, he announced, laughing, “No, it was Mrs. Merkel!”

Juncker is known for his casual style. Last month the 62-year-old former Prime Minister of Luxembourg announced that he still does not have a smartphone. According to officials, he leaves instead on an old Nokia mobile phone.
