China is home to 24 different provinces, but few are more interesting than the Henan, Gansu, Shanxi, and Ningxia regions. That’s because underground dwellings known as yaodong really set them apart from the rest.
These fascinating homes date back to the country’s Bronze Age, which came to pass in the second millennium B.C. That being said, production of yaodong caves really caught on during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1912). Thousands of people still live in them today!
This drone captured stunning aerial footage of a yaodong village in the Henan province.
